PLANTS OF ALABAMA Quercus minima (Sarg.) Small FAGACEAE
Shrubs to 6ft tall, sometimes more, often much less, locally abundant; all plants of this species were under 2ft tall when I last visited this spot 7-8 years earlier. In a fire-suppressed pine savanna (probably not burned for at least ten years) in moist sandy-organic loam (Osier loamy sand, 0-2% slopes; Siliceous, thermic Typic Psammaquents). Growing with Aristida beyrichiana, Aronia arbutifolia, Aster adnatus, Carphephorus odoratissimus, Centella asiatica, Cyrilla racemiflora, Dichanthelium dichotomum, Eragrostis elliottii, Helianthus heterophyllus, H. radula, Ilex glabra, Lechea pulchella, Liatris sp., Pinus elliottii, P. palustris, Pityopsis graminifolia, Pteridium aquilinum, Rhynchospora spp., Rubus argutus (?), Schizachyrium tenerum, Serenoa repens, Solidago stricta, Stenotaphrum secundatum & Vaccinium elliottii. About 150ft S. of Rt. 90 & around 0.35mi E. of the Mississippi border. Mobile Co. Elev. about 12ft 30° 28' 14.7"N, 88° 23' 38.3"W. UTM 16 366188E, 3371776N (NAD83AVGS84).
