  • Georeferencing Method

Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Only latitude of the precise locality ("Between Maiyoobtedi & Botamatatedi") provided in locality description, 3º N. Because of this, used the label coordinates of the general area of the collection ("Indian trail from Surucucu, 2º53' N.; 63º35' W, to Uaicá, 3º33' N; 63º11' W.) to locate the approximate collection route, then used the provided latitude range of the precise locality to find the location of the route at approximately 3º N. Georeferenced to the approximate location where the collection route meets 3º N, in Mun. Alto Alegre, Roraima. Used the label information and Google Maps - Earth View to locate the approximate route of the collection events (from 2º53' N 63º36' W to 3º33' N 63º11' W). Used the Google Maps - Measure Distance Tool to measure a straight line between the two sets of coordinates. Along this route, located where latitude reached 3º N; used the Google Maps - What's Here Tool to find the coordinates of this site. Because of the difficulty in determining the linear extent of this locality, used the Google Maps - Measure Distance Tool again to find the linear extent by measuring from the selected coordinates to the closer of the two stated coordinates of the approximate collection route (the farther would produce an inflated uncertainly radius). Input coordinates, linear extent (14970.0 m), and measurement error (50 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius (according to Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Named Place: Between Two Places).
