Growing in a seasonally wet forest on loamy/organic soil overlimestone & shale, with Acer rubrum, Glyceria striata, Lindera benzoin, Quercus palustris, Q. palustris X shumardii (Q. x mutabilis), Q. rubra, Populus deltoides, Sassafras albidum, and Toxicodendron radicans.
