Quercus stellata Wangenh. FAGACEAE Tree 30ft tall, trunk diameter 10in, with a very broad, almost shrubby crown. Part of a grove of perhaps 10 trees of this species, this tree being the largest. Uncommon in the area, fruit very rare, acorn caps from the previous season, collected off the ground. Growing in sandy and rocky soil in a shrubby/forested undulating plain, with Amelanchier sp., Myrica pensylvanica, Pinus rígida, Prunus serótina, Quercus coccínea, Q. ilicifolia, Q.
velutina, Rumex acetosella, Smilax rotundifolia, Toxicodendron radicans, Vaccinium corymbosum and Viburnum dentatum. Quivett Neck, about 0.15mi SE of Coles Pond, about 0.2mi NW of Quivett Creek, Dennis Township, Barnstable Co. Elev. 30ft. 41° 45' 16"N, 70° 08* 04"W. UTM 19 0405686E, 4623142N.
