A Revision of Lycianthes series Meizonodontae

Lycianthespeduncularis (Schlechtendal) Bitter
Mexico: State of Oaxaca; Mpio. San Carlos Yautepec?; along hwy 190 between city of
Oaxaca and Tehuantepec, ca. 3 rd mi S of town of Las Minas, ca. 7 rd mi S of turnoff to
San Juan la Jarcia. Dirt road, S side of hwy 190; 2520 ft.
Gentle slopes in dry habitat. Acacia, Solatium. Cnidosculus, scrubby shrubs, Cactaceae
and small trees. Plants both in shade of trees and bushes and in open agricultural field;
weed of traditional burned field, growing with com and young agaves in one part of
milpa. Field was burned several years ago. Soil red-brown with volcanic rocks and
marble present. Sprawling decumbent herbaceous perennial from large storage root;
common, but very; some plants 4 dm x 5 dm in diameter, ends of branches ascending;
flowers lilac with violet rays, open at time of collection (ca. 9 am). Shade plants have
insect damage on flowers. Plants in com field have flowers without insect damage.
