Lyciantlies ciliolata (Mart. & Gal.) Bitter
Mexico: State of Chiapas; Mpio. Zinacantan; Hills SE of the town of Zinacantan,
along footpath to Paraje Sok'on, several km uphill from Zinacantan; 2463 m.
Eroded rocky habitat with bunch grasses, scrub oak, many bromeliads, Rubus, legumes
and Rosaceae shrubs. Open areas by path, nearly full sun. Rocky limestone soil.
Perennial herb from large storage root, not abundant, the plants in small groups;
flowers lilac with purple rays, closed at time of collection (12:30 pm), open next
morning in collection bag.
Informants: three men from Paraje Sok'on. Use: Sweet, dry, many seeded edible fruit,
collected when dark and mature. Root not used. No medicinal uses. Indigenous name:
"hoh" or "yich hoh”
