Lycianthes ciliolata (Mart. & Gal.) Bitter
Mexico: State of Oaxaca; Mpio. Matatlan; along cobblestone road to radio tower, about 3.6 rd
mi S of Matatlan, along hwy 190 between Oaxaca City and Tehuantepec. 3300 ft.
Dry matorral habitat with scrub oaks, Agave fields, and Solanum. Both sides of stone road
about 2/3 of the way to radio tower. SW facing slope. Also in com fields on other side of
highway. Soil reddish-brown with white rocks (limestone?),and organic matter. Common here,
but not everywhere. Perennial herb from large storage root. Plants of with very different leaf
sizes and hair types. Small rootlets near soil surface. Immature fruit green with purple
splotches. Mature fruit black purple. Signs of green fruit being eaten, small pieces of
skin on the ground. Many fruit have been harvested already.
