SELVA ALTA PERENNIFOLIA, dry phase. Steep forested
slope on limestone, some trees cut out and coffee
planted.
Semi-epiphytic, robust shrub with branches spreading
4 m. from trunk of large tree, tightly adhering to
trunk by adventitious roots, the stem attached to
the tree trunk to the ground, the growth form similar
to that of Rhus radicans. Flowers fully open at

mid-day, with very faint sweet odor, buzzed by large
"bumble-bee". Corolla deep purple, the lobes green
on outside; calyx green; anthers yellow; pedicel slight-
ly verrucose; style white. Leaves very slightly
fleshy.
