Flowers grown in greenhouse at UC Berkeley. Harvested: 1^3 A Revision of Lycianthes series Meizonodontae (UC) UC Berkeley/ (XAL) Institute de Ecologia, Xalapa Lycianthes acapulcensis (Baillon) Bitter Mexico: State of Mexico; Mpio. Ixtapan de la Sal; 2 rd km NE of the NE gates of the town of Ixtapan de la Sal, along hwy 55 (to Toluca). Old logging rd on W side of hwy goes into disturbed forest along a drainage. 6000 ft. Moist Acacia-Juniperus forest with Verbena, Solanum spp., Eupatorium, Galium, and Lantana. Plants growing along the many small footpaths that wind through the forest. Abundant in shade right by drainage. Soil pinkish white in eroded places, rich litter in forest. Plants common, but with a patchy distribution, clumps of plants together. In shade, plants can be 4 ft tall, drooped over, main stem elongate, branched at top. In sun, plants are short and highly branched., often sterile, but some with many fruit, especially near drainage. Immature fruit green, turning grey blue, then purple black, falling from calyx easily. Many empty calyces.
