Lycianthes acapulcensis (Baillon) Bitter
Mexico: State of Jalisco; Mpio. El Tuito; about 3 rd mi N of El Tuito along hwy 200.
Footpath enters woods above a running river on W side of hwy. 2400 ft.
Open oak forest with a few pines. Granite area, small moist drainage, moister than other
drainages we inspected. With orchids, bromeliads, Melastomataceae, Peperomia, and ferns.
Soil covered by a lot of oak duff. Plants rare, found only in this one drainage. Perennial herb
from small storage roots. The roots are just balls of tissue. A few plants with bright blue, long,
pointed fruits, a few curved. Most plants sterile.
