  • Georeferencing Method

Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Georeferenced to the geographic center of the Vaupés River (synonymous with Rio Uaupés) within Brazil. Using Google Maps - Satellite View, located the Vaupés River, a tributary of Rio Negro, in Amazonas, BR. Used Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) to measure a straight line between the mouth of the river (where it branches off from Rio Negro) to where the river meets the Brazilian-Colombian border; halved this distance to approximate the midpoint of the river within Brazil. Used Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs to find the coordinates, on the adjacent southern shore. Input coordinates, linear extent (the distance from the selected coordinates to the farthest extent of the Vaupés River within Brazil, 150008 m.), and measurement error (1 m.) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius.
