Clavijero, 2 km. S of Jalapa along old road to
Coatepec, Mun. Jalapa, Edo. Veracruz, MEXICO.
Ecol.: BOSQUE CADUCIFOLIO. Native forest along small
stream, Ostrya virginiana, Carpinus caroliniana,
Liguidambar macrophylla, Quercus spp.
Descr.: Common native shrub along the small stream (all
specimens under this number from the same shrub),
4 m. tall, stems 1-several, up to 6 cm. in diam.;
leaves somewhat fleshy, with light fetid odor
when crushed. This plant with flowers almost
exclusively 4-merous/ a few flowers 5-merous.
Flowers mostly hanging, open in daytime but
odorless then. Calyx conspicuously 4-keeled.
Corolla white with violet tinge, the limb slightly
yellow at the mouth. Flowering period just
beginning and flowers abundant, nearly finished
flowering when observed in mid-December.
