Georeferencing Method
Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Georeferenced to the approximate geographic center of the village of Mutumparaná in Rondônia, Brazil, taking into account the added uncertainty of the word "vicinity" in the locality description. Using Google Maps - Satellite View, located the village of Mutumparaná. Used Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs to find the coordinates of the approximate geographic center of the village. Because the center of the nearest named place, the village of Porto Velho, is farther from the center of Mutumparaná then the linear extent of Mutumparaná itself, followed Case A of Near a Named Place of the Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide. Because the village does not have defined spatial boundaries on Google Maps, used the Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) to find the linear extent by measuring from the selected coordinates to the nearest named place, the village of Porto Velho, and halving that distance. Input coordinates, linear extent (3751.715 m), and measurement error (0.5 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius (according to Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Named Place: Near a Named Place).
