Bosque caducifolio. Forest originally of Quercus, Liquidambar macrophylla, now mostly heavily cut and disturbed and replaced by only Alnus acuminata ssp. arguta, Pteridium aquilinum.

Shrub 2 m. tall; leaves shiny. Inflorescence and calyx red; petals pink; anthers yellow. Phenology of specimen: Flower.
