  • Georeferencing Method

BioGeomancer, Guide to Best Practices for Georefer. Georeferenced to the approximate geographic center of Ilha da Silva in Amazonas, Brazil, taking into account the added uncertainty of the word "near" in the locality description. Used the Google Maps - Earth View to locate Ilha da Silva in Rio Negro. Used the Google Maps - What's Here Tool to find the coordinates of the approximate geographic center of the island. Because of the difficulty in deciding the appropriate nearest named place to the island, georeferenced according to method described in the Biogeomancer Guide to Best Practices for Georeferencing, Near a Feature. Used the Google Maps - Measure Distance Tool to find the linear extent by measuring from the selected coordinates to the farthest extent of the island (10.51 km), doubled this distance (200% of the linear extent of the island). Input coordinates, linear extent (21020.0 m), and measurement error (25 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius (according to Biogeomancer Guide to Best Practices for Georeferencing, Near a Feature).
