Georeferencing Method
Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Georeferenced to the area opposite (directly east) of the geographic shore of the city of São Felipe, along Rio Negro, in Amazonas, Brazil. Using Google Maps - Satellite View, located the geographic center of São Felipe. Used the Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) to measure a straight line directly across Rio Negro from the city of São Felipe. Used Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs to find the coordinates of the shore opposite of São Felipe. Because this area is not defined and therefore does not have spatial boundaries, used the linear extent of São Felipe as the linear extent of this site. Used the Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) again to approximate the linear extent of the city of São Felipe by measuring from the geographic center of the shoreline of the city to the nearest named place on the same side of Rio Negro, Missão Boa Vista, then halving this distance. Input coordinates, linear extent (5398.45 m), and measurement error (.01 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius.
