CARTERET COUNTY.: On the bark of a red maple (Acer rubrum),
bottomland floodplain mixed hardwood forest with Acer, Nyssa, and Ilex, on
east side of River Road (SR #1756), ca. 2.5 miles southwest of Havelock,
Pocosin Wilderness, Croatan National Forest. - elev. 20 ft. - 34° 49' 45"N,
76° 56’ 21"W - Lat. 34° 49' 45”N, Long. 76° 56' 21"W - Assoc, spp.:
Opegrapha spp., Opegrapha vulgata, Lecanora spp., Trypethelium tropicum,
Arthonia spp., Fissurina insidiosa, Graphis sp., Pertusaria spp.
Thallus corticolous, crustose, esorediate thick, brown, UV-; ascomata
circular, thin, brown-black; ascomatal pigments red-brown turning KOH+ brown-
green; ascospores 8-per ascus, muriform, ca. 8 cells by 1-2 cells, obtuse-ellipsoid,
often slightly bent, 32^m x 12^m.
