  • Georeferencing Method

Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Georeferenced to the midpoint of Rio Oiapoque between the confluence of Rio Oiapoque and Rio Camopi and Cachoeira Camaraua in Mun. Oiapoque, Amapá. Referred to the "Geographical Names" website (http://www.geographic.org/geographic_names/name.php?uni=-1357548&fid=1748&c=french_guiana, accessed: 8/27/2014) and other site locality descriptions for location information for Cachoeira Camaraua. Used Google Maps - Earth View to locate Rio Oiapoque between the confluence with Rio Camopi and Cachoeira Camaraua. Used the Google Maps - Measure Distance Tool to measure a straight line between the two sites along the river, then halved this distance to find the midpoint of the line. Chose a point along the shore of Rio Oiapoque nearest to the midpoint of the line; used Google Maps - What's Here Tool to find the coordinates (collection assumed to be terrestrial). Used the Google Maps - Measure Distance Tool again to find the linear extent by measuring from the selected coordinates to the farthest extent of the segment of Rio Oiapoque (between the two sites along the river). Input coordinates, linear extent (1820.0 m), and measurement error (50 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius.
