Georeferencing Method
Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Referred to "Fôlha Parima NA-20" [map] for location information for Rio Tucano (Carta do Brasil ao Milionésimo, Fôlha Parima NA-20 [map]. 1:1,000,000. In: Faissol, Speridião et. al. Carta Internacional do Mundo ao Milionésimo. 2nd edition. Rio de Janeiro: Instituto brasileiro de geografia e estatistica, 1972. p. 3.). Georeferenced to the approximate geographic center the mouth of Rio Tucano, a tributary of Rio Cauaburi, taking into account the added uncertainty of the word "beyond" in the locality description. Used the reference map and Google Maps - Earth View to locate the mouth of Rio Tucano in Mun. Santa Isabel do Rio Negro, Amazonas. Used the Google Maps - What's Here Tool to find the coordinates of the approximate geographic center of the mouth of Rio Tucano (confluence of Rio Tucano and Rio Cauaburi). Because of the difficulty in deciding the appropriate nearest named place to the mouth of the river, found linear extent according to the method described in the Biogeomancer Guide to Best Practices for Georeferencing, Near a Feature. Used the Google Maps - Measure Distance Tool to find the linear extent of the mouth of Rio Tucano by measuring from the selected coordinates to the farthest extent of the confluence of the rivers then doubled this distance (200 %). Because the doubled linear extent is less than 2 km, used 2 km as the linear extent. Input coordinates, linear extent (2000 m), and measurement error (50 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius (according to Biogeomancer Guide to Best Practices for Georeferencing, Near a Feature).
