  • Georeferencing Method

Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Georeferenced to the approximate geographic center of Rio Juruá within Amazonas, BR. Using Google Maps, located Rio Juruá, a tributary of Rio Solimões in Amazonas, BR. Used Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) to measure a straight line starting at the mouth of Rio Juruá (meeting of Rio Juruá and Rio Solimões) to the farthest extent of Rio Juruá within Amazonas, since Rio Juruá extends into Acre; halved this distance to approximate the location of the midpoint of Rio Juruá within Amazonas. Used Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs to find the coordinates of the midpoint, along the shoreline. Input coordinates, linear extent (distance from the selected coordinates to the farthest extent of Rio Juruá within Amazonas, 472690 m.), and measurement error (1 m.) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius.
