  • Georeferencing Method

Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Assumed that "Jauaçana" was a typo for the village of Iauacaná along Rio Içana. Georeferenced to the approximate geographic center of the shore of Rio Içana between the mouth of the river (confluence of Rio Içana and Rio Negro) and the village of Iauacaná (also along Rio Içana). Using Google Maps - Satellite View, located Rio Içana in Mun. São Gabriel da Cachoeira, Amazonas. Used the Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) to measure a straight line beginning at the mouth of Rio Içana to the approximate geographic center of the shore of Iauacana, then halved this distance to approximate the location of the geographic midpoint of the river between these two sites. Measured to approximately this calculated distance from the mouth of Rio Içana toward the center of the segment; used Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs to find the coordinates, on the adjacent shore of Rio Içana (collection assumed to be terrestrial). Input coordinates, linear extent (4558.073 m), measurement error (1 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius.
