Forest of Palmae and Bombacaceae, wet soil, shaded by trees.
Young tree, 4 m high, few branched. Stem brown with grey spots (leafscars). Leaves up to 60 cm in diameter, shiny, green, veines lighter; lower side white with green i veines. Stipules connate, forming a tube, light green, somewhat glaucous. Brown latex present. Spikes white; bracts yellowish gre^n; perigone white, juicy, slightly shiny; anthers white.
