Georeferencing Method
Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Referred to Geonames.org website for locality information for Igarapé Panelão (http://www.geonames.org/maps/google_-3.81_-60.398.html, accessed: 9/30/2014). Georeferenced to the approximate geographic center of Igarapé Panelão, a tributary of Parana Castanho-Mirim, in Mun. Careiro, Amazonas. Used the reference material and Google Maps - Earth View to locate Igarapé Panelão. Used the Google Maps - Measure Distance Tool to measure a straight line between the approximate geographic center of the mouth of Igarapé Panelão (confluence of Igarapé Panelão and Parana Castanho-Mirim) and the headwaters of the stream (approximated to be where the stream divides into two unnamed streams), then halved this distance to find the midpoint of this line. Chose a point along Igarapé Panelão nearest to the midpoint of this line; used Google Maps - What's Here Tool to find the coordinates, on the adjacent shore (collection assumed to be terrestrial). Used the Google Maps - Measure Distance Tool again to find the linear extent by measuring from the selected coordinates to the farthest extent of the stream. Input coordinates, linear extent (5030.0 m), and measurement error (25 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius.
