    Robust herb, 2 m high, dense stands, stems covered with slender spines, leafy throughout. Leaves harshly hairy above, cobwebby below, minutely toothed. Inflorescence spreading, flowerheads yellow, bract margins spiny. Phenology of specimen: Flower and Fruit.
