    Mexico. Hidalgo. Cerro Jihuingo, 17 km NW of APAM; S. slopes.

  • Habitat

    Lower slopes (areas O and TT) with scrub growth of shrubs and herbs with Compositae dominant (e.g. Palo loco, Senecio praecox) flowers yellow in April. Middle and upper slopes; zone of junipers followed by oak forest which grades into mixed oak-pine forest. Solid stands of pine (mainly ocote blanco) on summit (3250 m.). On N. slopes, and within ravines where water table is high, formerly an extensive fir forest, now almost completely destroyed by logging and fire. Crater bottoms with bunch grass (sacaton) and low, succulent herbs. Pine forest with bunch grasses understory dominants.
