  • Georeferencing Method

Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Referred to a map of Ferrovia Amapá (E.F. Amapá), the railroad which runs through Cupixi, provided by travel blog "Travel Brazil-Train: The Amapá Train" (Jan 2008) (link to blog: http://expatbrazil.wordpress.com/2008/01/07/travel-brazil-the-amapa-train/, link to map: http://expatbrazil.files.wordpress.com/2008/01/efa-mapa-1.jpg) to locate the route of the railroad, since it is unmarked on Google Maps. Using the reference map and Google Maps - Satellite View, located the route of E.F. Amapa. Used Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs to find the coordinates of where the railroad meets the approximate geographic center of the city of Cupixi. Because Cupixi does not have defined spatial boundaries on Google Maps, used the Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) to approximate the linear extent of the railroad within Cupixi by measuring from the selected coordinates to the geographic center of the nearest named place that the railroad ventures, Mongubas, and halving this distance. Input coordinates, linear extent (6180.3 m), and measurement error (.5 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius.
