Location
Mexico. Hidalgo. Cerro de Santa Monica, N. of Santa Monica, 40 km NW of APAM, on Pachuca highway. NW slopes.

Habitat
Lower slopes highly eroded, covered by low, spiny shrubs, cactus, agaves. Middle slopes characterized by large boulders of andesite and basalt amidst which grow open stands of the scrub-oak (tresmole) with gnarled trunks, spreading branches, to 7 m. high. One of few areas within Apan region with mature specimes of tresmole oak. Shrubs, grasses, etc. form understory in open scrub-oak forest.
