Habitat
Understorey tree in pine forest with Pinus patula subspecies tecunumanii, Pinus maximinoi and Cupressus lusitanica. Infrequent, scattered.

Description
Medsium-sized branchy tree with a spreading crown to 15 m. ht. Bark smooth mid grey brown mossy, inner bark cream. Leaves discolorous mid to bottle green above paler grey green below, young shoots and leaves covered in dense brown tomentum, leaf rachis glands brownish green. Ripe and unripe pods yellow green turning bright pillar box red and opening to reveal shiny black seeds embedded in a thick fleshy white aril. Phenology of specimen: Fruit.
