PINACEAE
Shrubby tree 25ft tall, trunk diameter 1ft, rare, twig sap odor
reminiscent of apples. Growing in dry, gravelly loam over
serpentine bedrock (Deadfall family-Lithic cryorchepts
complex, 40-60% slopes; loamy-skeletal, magnesic Typic
Cryorthents), in an open forest/savanna seasonally buried
deep in snow. Growing with Abies concolor (?), Achillea
millefolium, Allium falcifolium, Astragalus whitneyi var.
siskiyouensis, Cirsium cymosum, Delphinium depauperatum,
Eriogonum umbellatum var. polyanthum, Eriophyllum
lanatum var. achillaeoides, Lupinus lepidus var. lobbii,
Monardella odoratissima, Orthocarpus cuspidatus subsp.
cuspidatus, Penstemon parvulus, Phlox hoodii subsp.
canescens, Pinus balfouriana subsp. balfouriana P.jeffreyi,
P. monticola, Senecio integerrimus var. major & Tsuga
mertensiana (rare). Along Forest Service Road 42N17C,
about 0.3mi SE of Forest Road 17, about 8.9mi SW along FR
17 from the intersection with Stewart Springs Road and
probably around 200ft S. of the Shasta Co. line. Mount Eddy
