  • Georeferencing Method

Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Georeferenced to the approximate geographic center of the area full of lakes nearby the "meeting of the waters" of Rio Negro and Rio Amazonas in Mun. Manaus, Amazonas. Used Google Maps - Earth View to locate the approximate geographic center of the confluence of Rio Negro and Rio Amazonas, south of the city of Manaus. Used the Google Maps - What's Here Tool to find the coordinates of the approximate geographic center of the confluence (on the island directly south of Manaus, since collection assumed to be terrestrial). Used the Google Maps - Measure Distance Tool to find the linear extent of the area by measuring from the selected coordinates to the farthest extent of the confluence (using visual evidence to approximate). Input coordinates, linear extent (10710.0 m), and measurement error (2.5 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius (according to Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Named Place: Defined Area).
