  • Georeferencing Method

Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Unable to locate the precise location of Lago Mãecué or the mine "Sta. Patricia;" instead, georeferenced to the geographic center of the MRN Mineração Rio do Norte (mining area) in Porto Trombetas. Referred to MRN: Mineração Rio do Norte: Porto Trombetas website for location information for the mining area (http://www.mrn.com.br/en-US/Sobre-MRN/Porto-Trombetas/Pages/default.aspx). Used the reference material and Google Maps - Satellite View to located the mining area Mineração Rio do Norte in Porto Trombetas, Oriximiná (using visual evidence). Used Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs to find the coordinates of the approximate geographic center of the mine. Used Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) to find the linear extent by measuring from the selected coordinates to approximate farthest extent of the mining area. Input coordinates, linear extent (12080.1 m), and measurement error (5 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius (according to Georeferencing Quick Referencing Guide, Named Place: Defined Area).
