Rocky east slope in sagebrush country.

Description
Differing from the associated B. hirsuta in its smaller size (notably smaller heads with shorter rays), more appressed, non-visicd pubescence, less dissected leaves, less well developed cauline bracts, and shorter more appressed, mostly not caudate involucratal bracts, but much of the population showing some tendancy toward the characters of B. hirsuta, as if introgression were ocurring in one direction only. Phenology of specimen: Flower.

At this locality we do not see the areal replacement pattern, with obvious hybrids along the contact zone that can so often be seen in the genus"
