  • Georeferencing Method

Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Unable to find the precise location of "Porteira cemetery;" georeferenced to the approximate geographic center of the village of Porteira along Rio Trombetas, adjacent to the confluence of Rio Trombetas and Rio Mapuera, in Oriximiná, Pará. Using Google Maps - Satellite View, located the village of Porteira. Used Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs to find the coordinates of the approximate geographic center of the village. Because Porteira does not have defined spatial boundaries, used Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) to approximate the linear extent of Porteira by measuring from the selected coordinates to the geographic center of the nearest named place, village of Tapagem, then halving that distance. Input coordinates, linear extent (22662.3 m.), and measurement error (.1 m.) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius.
