  • Georeferencing Method

Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Georeferenced to the approximate geographic midpoint of Rio Negro between the city of Santa Isabel do Rio Negro (formerly named/synonymous with Tapuruquara) and Ilha da Silva in Mun. Santa Isabel do Rio Negro, Amazonas. Used Google Maps - Earth View to locate the city of Santa Isabel do Rio Negro and Ilha da Silva along Rio Negro. Used the Google Maps - Measure Distance Tool to measure a straight line between the approximate geographic center of the shore of the city of Santa Isabel do Rio Negro and the geographic center of Ilha da Silva, then halved this distance to find the midpoint of the line. Chose a point along Rio Negro nearest to the midpoint of the line; used Google Maps - What's Here Tool to find the coordinates of the approximate midpoint of Rio Negro between the localities, on the adjacent northern shore (collection assumed to be terrestrial). Used the Google Maps - Measure Distance Tool again to find the linear extent by measuring from the selected coordinates to the farthest length of this segment. Input coordinates, linear extent (38730.0 m), and measurement error (25 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius.
