In open to semi-open, with Acer negundo, Eriogonum jamesii, Quercus gambelii, Juniperus scopulorum, Rhus trilobata trilobata, low, mat-formign Phlox, Antennaria, Salix exigua, Pinus ponderosa, Clematis lingusticifolia, Thermopsis, occasional Abies, Berberis repens, Chrysopsis villosa, Rosa woodsii, Gilia aggregata, Equisetum, Cirsium, Chrysothamnus, Amelanchier, Artemisia tridentata, Oenothera elata, Oenother pallida, Castilleja linearifolia, Frasera speciosa. Locally common.
