United States of America. Maine. Washington Co. Jonesport. To the W. side of the Jonesport Heath, on the western slope and margin, just E. of a high school.

Habitat
Growing over wet peat (Sebago and Moosabec soils; Dysic, frigid Fibric Haplohemists to Typic Sphagnofibrists) near the windy crest of a coastal plateau bog. Growing with Chamaedaphne calyculata, Empetrum nigrum, Kalmia angustifolia, etc. Common.

Description
Moss forming an almost pure colony of this species about 1 ft across, otherwise often intermixed with other species. Center of heads red-brown, surrounded by a region of orange-brown, lateral branches tan.
