  • Description

    Tree 15 m tall, ca 45 cm diam; bark dark, furrowed, the ridges flat, ca 2 cm broad, cracked, the furrows narrow, not deep. The bark of this tree somewhat resembles a black oak, except the ridges and furrows are longer. The bark in no way resembles that of the chestnut oak common on sterile, dry soils around the summits of hills and balds. This tree did not produce acorns during the years 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010. Cultivated tree. NYBG Accession Number: 1811/88A.
