    In open sandy areas between shrubs. 28° east-facing brown volcanic cinder cone with psychedelically colored lichens. Windswept coarse cobbly slopes. low scrub of Artemisia tridentata, Symphoricarpos rotundifolius, Eriogonum umbellatum, Chrysothamnus viscidiflorus, Purshia tridentata. With Hesperostipa comata, Koeleria micrantha, Penstemon speciosus, Castilleja linearifolus, Monardella odoratissima, Leptodactylon pungens, Phlox stansburiana. Locally abundant.
