United States of America. Iowa. Wapello Co. Pioneer Ridge Nature Area, about 5 miles S of Ottumwa. it is on the Southern Drift Plain.

Habitat
infrequent on mineral soil in a deciduous forest on a terrace S of a small creek. Betula nigra and Salix sp. occur in the canopy. Climacium americanum is associated with Quercus imbricaria, Rosa multiflora and Ulmus rubra.
