United States of America. Minnesota. Wabasha Co. McCarthy Lake Wildlife Management Area is owned by the Minnesota DNR. It is about 1.9 miles S/SE of Kellogg and E of US Hwy 61. A rich fen occurs in a former channel of the Zumbro River.

Habitat
Sphagnum magellanicum is infrequent in the NE portion of Betula glandulifera thicket in the fen. The hummocks of Sphagnum magellanicum are up to 1.5 m. by 1.5 m by 0.3 m high. The collections comes from a hummock growing at the base of Betula glandulifera and is a shade modification of Sphagnum magellanicum.
