Georeferencing Method
Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Georeferenced to 180 km. along Marabá-Altamira road (BR-230). Using Google Maps - Satellite View, located the road which connects the cities of Marabá and Altamira in Pará, Brazil; road BR-230. Used Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) to measure approximately 180 km. (180.0004 km.) along BR-230 starting at the location where BR-230 meets the approximate geographic center of the city of Marabá (intersection of BR-230 and Av. Antônio Maia). Used Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs to find the coordinates at this offset along the road. Because the city of Marabá does not have defined spatial boundaries, used Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) again to measure from the approximate geographic center of the city of Marabá to the nearest named place, São João do Araguaia, then halved this distance to find the linear extent of Marabá, the starting location of the offset. Input coordinates, linear extent (17112.4 m.), measurement error (.1 m.), and distance precision (100 m.) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius.
