Georeferencing Method
Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. The road which leads east from the city of Porto Velho is Porto Velho-Cuiabá road, or BR-364. Georeferenced to 110 km along Porto Velho-Cuiabá road in Rondônia, Brazil. Using Google Maps - Satellite View, located the road which leads east from the city of Porto Velho, BR-364. Beginning at the location where BR-364 comes closest to the approximate geographic center of the city of Porto Velho, at the intersection of BR-364, BR-319, Av. Rio de Janeiro, and Av. Nações Unidas, used the Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) to measure approximately 110 km (110.0001 km) along the road toward Cuiabá (eastward). Used Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs to find the coordinates of the offset along the road. Used the Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) again to find the linear extent of the starting location, the city of Porto Velho, by measuring from the selected coordinates to the farthest extent of the city. Input coordinates, linear extent (8.30467 km), measurement error (0.0005 km), and distance precision (1 km) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius. Added half of the offset range (40 km) to the uncertainty radius to account for the added uncertainty of the offset provided in a range format.
