    Note: Filed as, because mounted on the same sheet as a type of this name. "Apetalous: stamens fifteen, five opposite the calyx-lobes, and ten on anteposed pairs, opposite the calyx-sinuses, part of the outer whorl sometimes wanting: calyx open in the bud: plants smaller than the type. The anteposed pairs of stamens and the complete lack of petals are the essential diagnostic features of this suggested variety. The calyx open in the bud and the reduced size of the plant are also characteristic as present, but if it thrives it may ultimately develop its calyx-lobes enough to cover the stamern, and may not improbably equal the parents form in stature. If the new comer should by chance be established as a good variety, I think it must be regarded not as only as newly discovered but also as newly developed, a bit of evolution occurring spontaneously almost under our eyes.
