Georeferencing Method
Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Referred to "Magia da Montanha" blog page (http://amagiadamontanha.blogspot.com/2013/05/abraco-na-serra-dos-orgaos-extra.html, accessed: 11/30/2015) for a map of the Serra dos Orgãos mountain range. This mountain range was turned into a national park, Parque Nacional da Serra dos Orgãos, in 1939. Georeferenced to the approximate geographic center of the Serra dos Orgãos mountain range, spanning municípios Petrópolis, Guapimirim, and Mage in Rio de Janeiro. Used the reference material and Google Maps – Earth and Terrain Views to locate the mountain range, spanning approximately from the cities of Piabetá to Teresopolis. Used the Google Maps – What's Here Tool to find the approximate geographic center of Serra dos Orgãos, using visual evidence from the Terrain View and Map View (Parque Nacional da Serra dos Orgãos polygon) to determine. Used the Google Maps – Measure Distance Tool to approximate the linear extent by measuring from the selected coordinates to the farthest extent of the mountain. Input coordinates, coordinate source (locality description), coordinate precision (.00001 degrees), datum (WGS84), linear extent (15170.0 m), and measurement error (5 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius (according to the Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Named Place: Bounded Area).
