  • Description

    Pileus (4-)6-14 cm broad, convex to plano-convex, dry, (8E-F8), sometimes paler toward margin, matted subtomentose to tomentose. becoming finely areolate to areolate squamulose. Flesh white, becoming pale dull reddish with exposure, sometimes with rapid bluing above tubes. Tubes adnexed, mineral greenish (1B3), staining blue green then red, then black. Stipe 5-10 cm long, 1-3.5 cm broad, equal to clavate with a pinched base, dry, subpruinose above, subpruinose and streaked below, pale mineral green at apex, dull violet (5E5) with black streaks, pinkish buff at base with white basal mycelium, with interior white, changing to pale blue green in apex and somewhat downward, pinkish brown in the base. Spore deposit chocolate brown when fresh. Cyanogranules (+) in p-pellis; hyphae cylindrical and sometimes with brown content, otherwise palisadal and with constricted septa and pale blue green, with hyaline context; St-pellis with deep blue green hyphae, forming clusters of short-clavate caulocystidia with scattered cyanogranules (+).
