Georeferencing Method
Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Georeferenced to the geographic center of Rio Tocantins, a tributary of Rio Pará. Rio Tocantins runs through the Brazilian states of Pará, Maranhao, Goiás, and Tocantins. Using Google Maps - Satellite View, located the mouth of Rio Tocantins in Pará. Used Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) to measure a straight line starting at the mouth of the river (at the confluence of Rio Tocantins and Rio Pará) to the end of the river (at the Cana Brava Dam in Tocantins), then halved this distance to approximate the location of the midpoint of Rio Tocantins. Used Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs to find the coordinates of the midpoint, on the adjacent western shore. Input coordinates, linear extent (655957 m.), and measurement error (1 m.) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius. Site is located in the Brazilian state of Tocantins, not Pará.
