Location
Mexico. Yucatán. About 1 km S of the town of Dzilam de Bravo which lies on the N coast of the Yucatan Peninsula about 110 km NE of the state capital Merida.

Habitat
Low lying cosatal limestone near the edge of the mangrove swamps. Scattered in degraded dry coastal thorn scrub with Caesalpinia vesicaria, C. yucatensis, C. gaumeri, Leucaena leucocephala and Prosopis glandulosa. Frequent.

Description
Small tree to 7 m. ht. with a short bole, heavy branching and a dense round crown, spiny; dbh 30 cm. Bark rough vertically fissured mid grey on surface, dark brown in in fissures. Foliage mid green. Ripe pods shedding, indehiscent or very tardily dehiscent; dark brown turnbing black on the ground and rotting. Phenology of specimen: Sterile.
