Sun, dry, northeast slope, rocky canyon bottom. Upper Sonoran: madronos, oaks, alligator juniper. Common.

Description
Tree 28 ft., spread 12 ft., trunk diameter 12 inches at 4 ft. This tree has dull gray foliage, few cones. The bark of the main trunk is rough and fibrous--almost black. Upper one-third of the tree has smooth bark as the branches, which is a smooth red-brown. Phenology of specimen: Fruit.
