United States of America. Arizona. Gila Co. Mazatal Mountains, upper end of Rye Creek in cypress thicket, 7 miles northwest of Rye Creek Store by road.

Habitat
Dry slopes of flat ridge. Upper Sonoran: Pinyons, scrub oaks, Arctostaphylos pungens. Dominant. Red soil.

Description
Tree 40 ft., spread 30 ft., trunk diameter 24 inches sev. ft. [?]/ This is a broad crowned tree with many massive branches 6-8 inches in diameter, and the central leader is weak. At grounf level the bark of the main trunk is a little gray and does not exfoliate cleanly, Higher up the bark is cherry-red and like the branches it exfoliates. Phenology of specimen: Fruit.
