Habitat
Wet hillsides. Upper Sonoran and Arid Transition: Pinus sabiniana. Dominant. Red clay over granite.

Description
Tree 30 ft., spread 15 ft., trunk diameter 12 inches. This tree has very fine staminate cones. Thousands of trees mostly 15-25 ft. high, but none seems much over 30 ft. high. They are grayish in aspect, but many are very golden with staminate cones now shedding pollen. Only the evry smallest trees have cherry red bark. Larger trees have thick dark gray-brown fibrous bark and a few have smooth reddish branches. Pistillate cones which are mature are gray to somewhat silver; young cones are brown.
